I recently went through old papers looking for something for my kiddo. I found this Ode to My (former) Wife's Final Fantasy Addiction and am sharing here. This is for all the gaming widows (as we referred to ourselves) who love someone who loves an MMORPG.
Warrior woman in the forest of Samdoria
Riding her Chocobo, looking for glory.
While I sit and watch all uncomprehending
This infernal game seems to be never ending.
When she’s not playing, she’s reading on forums,
Researching walk-throughs and quests and all the kingdoms.
Date nights are punctuated by checking on plant health
Questing for coffers and practicing her stealth.
//Virtual world for my flesh ‘n blood girl. I wish you’d play mind games and not these infernal online games.
She’s a black mage, a red mage, a thief -- she can fight!
Leveling her character requires playing all night.
She has artifact, armor, and a mahogany bed.
“I’ll just play for an hour” are the words I most dread.
She speaks better jargon than my military friends.
BRB, OMG, WTF, BCNMs.
Her mistress, my rival, this online game world,
Is more dangerous, more consuming, than a flesh ‘n blood girl.
//Virtual world for my flesh ‘n blood girl. I wish you’d play mind games and not these stupid online games.
I know that you love me, really I do.
It’s just that you need to kill a goblin or two.
You meet up with buddies like Robular and Ryll-
Then form into parties and talk on your linkshell.
